The Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that Shana Smith will be the next CEO of the YWCA Canton effective December 8.
Shana has deep roots in our community and brings a wealth of experience to the role. She has served on the Boards of Leadership Stark County, Homeless Continuum of Care, Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health, YMCA of Myers Lake, and the Ohio Optometric Foundation. She has a BA in Sociology from Kent State University, an MBA and post-graduate studies toward a Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies from Ashland University. Shana’s work history includes roles with Passages School, Choices Alternative High School, The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, Canton City Schools, and Malone University. She is also a proud graduate of Timken Senior High School and Leadership Stark County.
Shana was drawn to the YWCA opportunity because of her commitment to educating the young, leveling the playing field for marginalized populations, and supporting women and families. She has deep compassion for single mothers who are raising children in our community and is very proud of her 3 children, Dayanna, Amya, and DeMarlo Jr.
In order to facilitate a smooth transition, Cathy Jennings will be working in partnership with Shana during the month of December. While there is no way to teach or transfer almost 30 years of passion, dedication and leadership we value and appreciate Cathy’s guidance during this critical orientation and on-boarding process.
